SMCC PTK Chapter earns top honors at regional conference

Southern Maine Community College’s (SMCC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter was recognized with multiple awards at the PTK New England Regional Conference held onSMCC PTK Chapter March 8.

Representing SMCC, a group of exceptional students, including Hugh Chapman, Payson Avery, Norah Gibson, Victoria Muanda, Arynne Priest, Zoe Crowley, and Tori Penny, Director of Student Life, were celebrated for their hard work and commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and service.

Among the honors:

  1. Payson Avery, Chapter President, received the Distinguished Chapter Officer Award, a top individual recognition in the region.
  2. The chapter earned first place in the New England Region Honors in Action Distinguished Theme Award for Theme 6: Stories of Persistence, Resilience, Healing, and Sorrow, highlighting the chapter’s powerful Mental Health Storyboard project.

SMCC’s chapter received the 5-Star Chapter Award, a prestigious recognition that reflects sustained excellence and engagement throughout the year. This award is a testament to the chapter’s consistent efforts and dedication to its mission.

In addition, the Mental Health Storyboard project placed third overall in the New England Region Honors in Action Project Award category, a highly competitive category that recognizes innovative and impactful projects from PTK chapters across the region.

These awards, which are a testament to the chapter’s meaningful contributions and the leadership of its student members, underscore the magnitude of SMCC’s PTK chapter’s achievements. Congratulations on a successful and inspiring year!
